What the heck is the MOD file? How do I use it?
You need to do several things first.
1. Install Java on your system
2. Install the Vassal Engine
3. Download the MOD file and open it in Vassal
This thread at the Wizards Message Boards has all the details for carrying out those steps. You can also ask questions there if you have trouble.
I'm having trouble getting the extra maps working. What's wrong?
After working with several people who had problems, every case so far has come down to a file/folder naming issue or simple misunderstanding of the instructions. Here's some screenshots of how things should look:
You start a game just like normal. There's nothing special about starting a game with extensions:
