Mods are sluggish

Postby vidbot » December 3rd, 2017, 10:14 pm

Here are my specs:

Model: HP Compaq Pavilion 500
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
CPU: AMD A8-7600 Radeon R7, 3.10 GHz
Memory: 8GB
Video: AMD Radeon R7
VASSAL: 3.2.17
Java: 1.6.0_45

Most of the time when I play games, the modules seem a little sluggish, especially scrolling through the maps. And even more so on larger games like Day of Days. I have increased the max heap size in preferences to 1024 MB. I am running an older machine and I am going to increase my memory to at least 16 GB. Do you think that would be enough? I don't think an upgraded graphics card is necessary, but I could be wrong. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

More RAM may help if the reason you're experiencing the sluggishness is that the memory being used by running programs is having to be moved into and retrieved from on-disk swap space. I think you can check how much RAM is free and how much swap is in use from the process manager in Windows.
