No more "Save" button for drafts, please!

Postby fatgreta » December 4th, 2013, 2:34 am

I know, I'm an inattentive, moving too fast guy, and half an idiot sometimes. For some reason, almost ever time I write a post for vassal, I find myself clicking the Save button instead of the submit. I don't know if it's because Save is such a common word (at least in my mind) for "OK, finished, next...," or because as I said I'm half an idiot sometimes. Maybe it's because the Save button in the first one, reading left to right?

Anyway, my feature request is either to make that say something like "Save Draft," or move it to the far right side of the end of post button alignment, or something.

This forum runs on phpBB. There is a global option for enabling/disabling the Save feature on posts, so it's definitely possible to turn it off for everyone.

Well, I wouldn't want to rain on everyone's parade. If this is the first time anyone's written in about it, it's probably basically my issue. I imagine I can cope with it, I don't post here all that often. Thanks for responding.

I've done this before myself. I agree, it's not a good UI design.

But: I'm not going to modify phpbb to do that. (This is a corollary of
my resolve not to modify phpbb at all, ever again, because it was such a
miserable exeperience the last time.) I've been wanting to stop using
phpbb ever since we started using phpbb, and the way this will get fixed
is by us switching to a different forum. (Discourse is the one I'm
leaning toward currently.) Nothing is going to happen immanently, but
it's something I'd like to tackle in 2014 sometime.

I certainly don't want to be the guy that pushes you to recreate a miserable experience ;-)

The rest of this is a bit over my tech IQ, but I think I generally follow you.

Of note, using "Quick reply" does not present the Save feature, and Submit is the first button left to right...

The gist is that putting more time into phpbb is throwing good time
after bad. I intend to replace the rotten board, not patch it up.
