Dissociate "ignore map grid" from "Does Not S

Postby randyshipp » August 5th, 2008, 8:48 pm

It would be nice if Does Not Stack and Ignore Map Grid When Moving were separate traits. Alternatively, one could have the ability to set certain Map Layers as "Ignore Map Grid."

Seconded

I'm making a module with 2 inch hexes and 5/8" counters. I'd like the counters to stack but don't want to snap them to the grid. I also want to auto report movement from hex to hex. Besides making a zone for each hex I'm not sure how else to do this besides using the do not stack property and selecting ignore map grid when moving.

This is my long winded way of seconding this request.

Thanks for your efforts in making VASSAL an incredible program.

Dissociate "ignore map grid" from "Does Not S

Postby Brent Easton » August 22nd, 2009, 11:09 pm

Correct me if I am wrong, but I suspect that what you really want is that HexGrid and Rectangular grid get the additional option 'Snap to Grid?' that defaults to Yes. This would allow you to turn snapping off in a Hex or Square grid. Irregular Grid already has this option.

I am thinking also that adding a seperate 'Ignore Grid' trait might be the easiest way of resolving the issue for individual counters.

Regards,
Brent.

You're a mind reader Brent. I was just thinking about this some more today and realized that the option whether or not to snap to grid should apply for each grid created in the module. For instance, if you have three zones, each with it's own grid, then each grid in each zone should have the option of snap to grid.

I didn't realize this already existed for irregular grids. I'd have use for this feature with the other grid types as well.

I've been away from VASSAL for over a year. Thought I'd check back to see if this feature request has been implemented in my absence. Thanks very much.

I strongly doubt this will be implemented before 3.2.

Okay, thanks. I'll await version 3.2. Is there an ETA for this version? Not trying to be pushy. I know VASSAL updates are worked on by volunteers and appreciate their time.
