Module updating etiquette

Postby Profit » May 18th, 2020, 7:01 am

Let's say you've stumbled over a module and wants to make a few tweaks (and eventually publish), but cannot get a hold of the original designer. What is the etiquette here?

The designer's guide says:

New Versions of Existing Modules
As an open-source project, V ASSAL modules are freely editable by others. If youʼve got an idea to improve an existing
module, either for your own use or that of others, have at it! You may want to contact the module designer and propose a
collaborative effort, or you may wish to use the existing module as a starting point for your own new version. There can be
any number of V ASSAL modules for a given game.
Itʼs always courteous to inform the original module designer or maintainer of your efforts. Contact email addresses of
module contributors are maintained on each moduleʼs page.

I believe also you do not remove the previous module versions, though I cannot find where I saw that. However that makes sense to me as VASSAL does not handle version changes well and people may need old versions of modules.
