I've searched around, but I can't find any info on this one way or the other.

Is the source for VASSAL's server available anywhere? Or is the server not open source?

The server source is in the same tree as the source for VASSAL.

However, you should not that all of the server code is slated to be
junked in the near future when we switch to a Jabber-based server.
