Drag and drop is different

Thus spake Brigz:

Thanks for the quick reply.

It happens in all mods. Mod’s I’ve downloaded and mods I’ve made. I’ve
even made simple test mods and it does it with them too.

Which version of Java are you using? On which OS?

I upgraded directly from 3.1.17 to 3.1.20. I never used 3.1.18 or
3.1.19.

Please try 3.1.18 and 3.1.19, and let us know if either of those
exhibit the problem for you. This will help us track down when the
change occurred.

J.

I installed both .1.18 and .1.19 a got the same result. Loaded .1.17 and now it didn’t show the “ghost” counter image. That is strange because before I upgraded from .1.17 to .1.20 it showed the ghost image. I loaded .1.20 again and it was the same.

I’m using Java 7 Update 7

Have you recently installed a different version of Java?

J.

I installed Java 7 Update 7 on Sept. 2. I think I installed 3.1.20 a day or two after that. Because I installed several versions of Vassal yesterday, to check to see if they affected anything, I don’t have an exact date when I first installed 3.1.20.

What I’m asking about is which versions of Java and VASSAL worked for
you as pairs. I don’t care about the dates.

J.

Vassal 3.1.17 and Java 7 update 6.

Thus spake Brigz:

Vassal 3.1.17 and Java 7 update 6.

So 3.1.17 doesn’t work for you with Java 7 Update 7, then?

J.

Correct.

This is hard to pin down, because I installed new versions of Vassal and Java at about the same time.

Just to clarrify, I use Vassal on a daily basis editing and modifying various mods. I first noticed this after I installed 3.1.20. When ever I upgrade Vassal I always run a few modules after the install to see if anything has changed. That’s when I first noticed this one change. So I’m pretty sure it was a result of going from 3.1.17 directly to 3.1.20.

J.

Correct.

Try 3.1.20 with Java 7 Update 6. Does that work?

J.

Same. I have a 64 bit system and noticed that the Java program I’ve been using was a 32 bit version. So I downloaded the 64 bit Java and the results were the same. Everything runs fine except the drag and drop transparancy.

Can you get back to any state where transparency works?

J.

No.

Just to make sure we are on the same wave-length: This is totally limited to dragging and dropping units on the maps. The transparencys used in counter image creation work fine.

J.

No.

Have you made sure to reboot after installing a new version of Java?
Have you made sure that you have only one version of Java installed
at a time?

Yes, I understand.

J.

Yes the computer has been rebooted and there is only one version of Java.
But there is a JavaFX 2.1.1 program installed.

I guess this is going to remain a mystery for me. I uninstalled Java and reinstalled it. Did the same for Vassal and still get the same result. Guess I’ll just have to live with it. Doesn’t interfere with playing the game.

Have you checked the errorLog after trying to drag a piece?

J.

How do I do an error log?

Thus spake Brigz:

How do I do an error log?

It’s available under Help > Error Log in the Module Manager.

J.

I ran a module, moved some counters around and then checked the Error log. It did not report any errors. Tried to copy or save the error log to post here, but couldn’t find any way to do that.

The error log should also be in your Vassal directory on your computer.
