Windows 8

I have problems with vassal either 3.1.20 nor 3.2.2 under windows 8.
Just after install it works.
If i close it, it’s impossible to restart it, after bug windows.
I need to uninstall, reboot and install from scratch to lunch it one time only…

Somebody with same experience ? A solution ?

My new computer is a dell aurora with intel 3730.

Laurent.

Please post the contents of the errorLog after you’ve had the problem.
You’ll find that in C:\Users<username>\AppData\Roaming\VASSAL.

Java is failing to load the native library we use to determine how much
memory your machine has. It looks like the failure is a permissions
problem.

Does the file mentioned here exist

J.

yes but i see it in C:\Utilisateurs\Lolo\AppData\Local\Temp\ with french windows

Are you able to delete that file?

J.

yes.
I unsinstall vassal, delete all temp files and reinstall.
It doen’t work :frowning:

this time : java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: C:\Users\Lolo\AppData\Local\Temp\jna8814647135297706468.dll: Accès refusé

i desinstall vassal, reboot, delete all temp files, reinstall vassal and observe \temp
I launch vassal, it create some jna…dll ; it work.
i close vassal, this temp dll was erased
i try to restart vassal, it create one other jna…dll but open the bug window with reference to this new jna…dll
when i close the bug window this jna…dll is not erased from \temp\

Thus spake Lorenzo26:

There’s no reason to uninstall VASSAL. The problem is with reading or
writing this temporary file. Can you check what permissions your user
account has for doing that?

J.

But the temporary file is readed one time only after reboot/install and not after i close the program.
Where can i find permissions and what permission to search for ?

To reinstall vassal is at the moment the only way i have to launch the program for one shot… and only after a reboot.

after reboot and reinstall :
first time : work properly
second time : open bug window
third time : nothing happens

on the third try, just a file in Roaming\vassal\ seems to change ; it’s named “lock”

Thus spake Lorenzo26:

I don’t know Windows well. I suppose you’d need to look at the file
properties in the file manager.

J.

this file is removed when you close vassal ?
The first time i launch vassal it create this sort of file and when i close vassal, this file is erased…
It’s only after the second launch it says the file may not be opened and it is not erased (not the same name for it).

Thus spake Lorenzo26:

Try deleting the Temp directory and rebooting. It will automatically be
recreated with the correct preferences.

J.

now my situation is : i have vassal icon on the desk and i can’t launch it ; nothing happens.
To launch it, i have to desinstall, reboot and reinstall.

It’s what i did before a reinstall.
And same happens : first try ok, then second time bug window, third time nothing happens except the date of “lock” file in roaming\vassal

What size is the temporary file the second time?

J.

i need to desinstall reboot and reinstall to answer…
