From BGG ...

Kingmaker simulates the Wars of the Roses, the period of sporadic Civil War in England between 1450 and 1490. Ruled by a weak and mentally unstable king, Henry VI, demoralized by the defeat in France at the end of the Hundred Years War, and encouraged by the ambitions of Richard, Duke of York, and his sons; the country's Noble families used their large private armies in attempts to gain control of the government.

The game is based on the premise that the powerful Noble families used the Lancastrian and Yorkist princes as pawns in a greater game of gaining control of England. Players control factions using their military and political power to control and influence the royal heirs, supporting the heir in their control as king while trying to take down all of the other heirs.

Modules ...
There are two versions of the module -

  • Kingmaker "Deluxe" Module by clanmacrae9
  • Kingmaker by scotty
  • About the Kingmaker Deluxe Module:
    • Kingmaker – Deluxe 2.5 includes the following improvements:
      • Fixes the stack problem for the faction markers (hopefully)
      • Softened the brightness on the Faction Cards.
    • Kingmaker – Deluxe 2.4 includes the following improvements:
      • Fixed shuffle function for both the Crown and Event Decks
      • Fixed the menu order for Noble-Audley counter
    • Kingmaker – Deluxe 2.3 includes the following improvements:
      • Added delete capability to Faction Control Markers
      • Improved Dice with image results displayed in the menu windows as well as the chat window
      • Removed errors for missing menu graphics
      • Improved menu icons
    • Kingmaker - Deluxe 2.2 includes the following improvement:
      • Enabled Right click to shuffle the Event card deck.
      • Added delete capability to Faction Control Markers. (actually this did not get in...sorry...2.3 awaits!)
    • Kingmaker - Deluxe 2.1 includes the following improvements:
      • Improved mouseover information.
      • Right click to send Nobles, Heirs, and Ships back to the their original holding places in the pieces tray.
      • Right click to display a small faction icon to indicate Noble, Heir and Ship ownership.
      • Improved artwork for the advanced/expansion cards tray.
      • Moved the Advanced game pieces to the pieces tray.
      • Corrects a minor border connection on the "improved" map.
      • Corrects numbering convention to x.x instead of x.xx.
    • Kingmaker Deluxe functions listed below are included unless specifically changed by higher version numbers
      • The Kingmaker Deluxe Module incorporates the original 1976 AH map and a re-imagined one that "improves" the glorious but flawed original. New functions listed below are an attempt to make the module a little more useful to the players and reduce some of the interaction problems that occurred as a result of a shared player board. The cards have been returned to the player board except for the specialty cards, which can be added as needed.
      • Several small, but useful (and one non-useful) functions have been added to this version.
      • Provided each faction with their own player board to eliminate the Vassal effect of having your cards and pieces be in a state of constant movement as other players adjust their cards.
      • Moved the Crown deck to the map board, but included the Plantagenet and discard piles as well.
      • Removed the individual card names from the card properties.
      • Included right-click options to send the nobles, heirs and ships to their possible starting locations.
      • Improved mouseovers, to provide the pieces names. This is especially helpful in identifying the nobles.
      • Display garrison permanent levels visible at all times for all building/city/town types.
      • Added mouseover for garrison level and max troop level for all building/city/town types.
      • Added the ability to right click and change troop levels (This is the non-useful addition) if desired. If you don’t want to use this, just ignore it.
      • Removed movement trails as much as possible, where not needed and removed stacking where unnecessary.
      • The original map is included as an option, should someone prefer to use it. For changes and clarifications for the new map…see below. It should be noted that the original map and the new map share some global Vassal attributes. When a decision had to be made to favor one map or the other, the new map was given nod. As a result the old map has a few inconsistencies in regards to some of the functional additions designed for Kingmaker - Deluxe. None of these render the map unusable, but players should be aware that unless there is an obvious problem with both maps, the old map will retain some workaround issues.
      • What is different about the “improved” map and cards?
        • This new map has restored 2 ports missing from the classic A-H version, Preston and Caernarvon, as well as the port boxes which abut specific land and sea squares. Additionally, ports have been added to Ireland and Dublin. The whole of Ireland is a port in the same manner as the Continent. Inlets which may or may not block movement have been delineated to a greater degree. The general tendency in this map has been to impede off-road movement. Roads have been rerouted at Shrewsbury and London to make it plain that those towns control passage. Town cards have been color-coded to their regions and optional troop strengths are added as per A-H 1978 variants. Regarding town troops, players may want to try an option in which the troops may be used for attack and defense, but only in the home region. Therefore, Shrewsbury's 20 men can be used anywhere in England, but not north of the River Trent, in Wales or Cornwall. As always, house rules rule!
      • Here’s to hoping everyone interested in playing Kingmaker enjoys this Vassal version.
  • About the Kingmaker by Avalon Hill (1976) Module
    • This module uses a larger version of the 1976 map from Avalon Hill. Module includes all Basic and Advanced components from the original set, and also Crown and Event cards from the two Avalon Hill expansions.
    • The current release is the v1.0 module, which is pretty much complete. The v0.8 is an older version.
