Module talk:Russian Front

From Vassal

Hi there, I’m a massive ASL fan but relatively new to VASSAL. To the developers..... was wondering if it would it be possible to invert the units by using the right click menu ....such that the unit depiction was still visible to the owning side but blank(ie. beyond knowing it’s a unit)to the opposition? The fog of war possibilities would be amazing.

Yes, this is possible, but if BOTH sides have "hidden" pieces, then you can have opposing units move through each other without being detected. Therefore, a lot of code has to be written to resolve these detections (unit becomes adjacent to another unit)

However... this is much more applicable to low-level tactical games than to corp-level games. Both sides conducted air reconnaissance almost continuously, so there's very little movement that can occur that isn't detectable in real life (especially in the vastness of Russia with very few paved highways).

It's generally possible to give all of the pieces a "hideable" trait. But.. really, to do what you want, to do it in a rational manner, you need a referee/adjudicator to run the visibility.

This kind of thing is much more appropriate for, say, a civil war game (all the way up to the strategic level). Large air forces and dirt roads change everything.

Lastly, please sign your writings on the talk page with 4 tilde (~) characters in a row. Basically "xxxx" but using the ~ key instead of the x key. The result of such is shown below, preceeded by two "-" characters (i.e. --XXXX but the X's are ~'s) --Aaron Kulkis (talk) 11:09, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
